Wellbeing

We are proud to have a Sixth Form Wellbeing Lead and a Wellbeing Hub, generously funded by mdeducational foundation since September 2020.

As a college we are committed to supporting the Wellbeing of our students and promoting good mental health.

This helps our students manage day to day stresses, work productively, have a sense of meaning and be connected to others.

At the centre of this commitment is our KS5 Wellbeing Lead, Lucy Borthwick, who proactively promotes wellbeing across the whole of the Sixth Form through education, signposting and organising events and activities that support good mental health and engender a sense of community for all students.

Students also have access to our Wellbeing Hub, boasting a fully equipped gym, space to talk, take part in mindfulness activities and have organised group sessions such as yoga and workshops on dealing with exam anxiety.

It is a welcoming and non-judgemental space for all students to access when they identify that they need extra support.

The Wellbeing Lead also develops strategies to identify those students where their level of wellbeing is becoming a factor in them succeeding academically and is impacting on their everyday life.

These include in-house additional support, access to a trained counsellor and and liaising with external health and social care providers to meet the complex needs of the student.

(Wilsons’ Memorial Trust also made a financial contribution to the decoration and facilities inside of the Wellbeing Centre).

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
