Welcome to SGS Boarding, judged Outstanding in all areas. We are a vibrant community that places communication, cooperation and kindness at the heart of everything we do. We aim to provide a true home from home: a nurturing and supportive environment where pupils can flourish and become the very best version of themselves.
Our modern yet homely boarding houses offer a combination of single (en suite) and dormitory style rooms. Boarders are well fed; our on-site catering team makes delicious home-cooked meals daily. We have cosy day rooms with reading corner for quieter moments, and table tennis, pool, table-football and games consoles for the more energetic. We have a gym and music practice room as well as a purpose built ICT suite where students complete their homework in the evenings.
All this in a prime location nestled under the South Downs in the centre of a historic town with easy access to shops and public transport. Whether you are thinking of full boarding, weekly boarding or flexi boarding, we have an option to suit you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit.

Sarah Murton: Head of Boarding
I was educated overseas and in the UK at a variety of day and boarding schools. I read Ancient and Modern History at Oxford and completed my PGCE in Religious Studies at Canterbury Christ Church. I’ve lived in Japan, Mauritius, Kenya, Germany and Belgium.
Above all, I prioritise honesty, enthusiasm and effort. My aim is for boarders to leave SGS the best version of themselves, understanding the value of kindness, empowered to instigate positive change in the world.
My hobbies are music and sport. I’ve played with various orchestras and sung in many choirs. I also love running and hiking and am delighted to be in beautiful Steyning surrounded by countryside.

Sarah Oliver: KS5 House Parent
My career in education started as a Primary school teacher . I then taught and mentored in a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit, and moved on to curate and develop a youth work programme for a charity, based within a secondary school. This naturally evolved to support the pastoral care and wellbeing of young people in boarding. Many families I have worked with have had complex social and emotional needs and I strongly believe that holistic support for mental and physical health and wellbeing is paramount in order for our young people to grow and thrive.
Sixth Form encompasses such a pivotal part of adolescence and I look forward to guiding boarders, through their A-Levels and Applied courses, into early adulthood. I hope I can inspire them, have fun and allow everyone to flourish, feeling safe in the knowledge that Bolton house is their home-from-home.
My interests are gardening, yoga and walking and I try to incorporate my interests into some enrichment activities we offer.

Taniel Hammond: KS4 House Parent
As a qualified teacher who has immigrated from South Africa, I bring warmth, positivity, and a deep belief that every student has the potential to achieve greatness. My vision for our boarding house is to create a true home away from home — a safe and welcoming environment where students feel valued and inspired. I’m passionate about helping boarders reach their academic best ensuring they have fun while doing it. Bennett is filled with friendship, laughter, and growth. Together, we build a community where every student can thrive.
My interests include Pilates and Travelling. I love to be creative and organise fun boarding events. Cooking is also a favourite of mine especially anything to do with chocolate!
