We offer a variety of ways for ex-students to give back to the school. These range from providing wacky modes of transport for the annual ‘Jailbreak’ event through to telling your inspirational stories to current students at careers events.

There is also a network for those students that came to the school up until 1967 called the Old Boys Network.
The Steyning Grammar School ‘Old Boy’s Network’ is an informal, non-subscription network of about 1200 Old Boys and is confined to the pre-1968 Old Boys of the Grammar School. The network has a website which is accessible only by its members (those whose contact details are supplied) which links to a shared member Directory. The whole purpose is to give those who want to get in touch with old friends the basic tool to do so. Newsletters are produced twice a year and in these are recounted many recollections. However, because they also contain confidential information about changes in contact details, they go only to Network members and a handful of others.
Members have recorded memories and contributed towards a record of the history of the pre-1968 school in a series of books: The Slog Smugglers (the 1950s), Nudes at Breakfast (1935-50), Crazy Buildings (history of the buildings), Acting the Part (school plays 1914-68) Calling Teacher Names (staff nicknames 1920-68), Making a Mark (names of boarders on the church pews) and A Stroll Down Mouse Lane (anthology of poetry).
Members have contributed to see graveyard memorials made for Astrid Andersson (Matron in the 1950s. Steyning churchyard) and John Norman, killed on the playing field in 1943 (Wiggonholt churchyard). Contributions have also been made to clean the stones for George Airey (Headmaster 1840-77) and Claud Ross (French Teacher 1918-46) both in Steyning churchyard. Members have funded a dendrochronological study of the old Church Street buildings to establish their dates of construction.

Our Annual Fund is part of our SGS School Development Funding Strategy. We have been reluctant to launch an Annual Fund but have decided that our current financial context requires this move. There is absolutely no obligation to contribute; it is completely voluntary.
