Food

Our Chef and his team are committed to fresh food. Home-cooked food, prepared and cooked on the premises by our dedicated catering team, using 90% fresh ingredients. A full salad bar is always on offer as an option and fresh fruit is always available. Food supplies are provided daily in each house kitchen which includes a variety of food for all dietary requirements. Each Boarding House has their own kitchen areas where they are provided with food supplies which includes a variety of foods for all dietary requirements.

The Boarding Food Committee is held half termly overseen by the Senior Houseparent and Chef Manager, where a group of students share ideas and suggestions.

Nut Free Policy

It is the aim of Steyning Grammar School to establish and maintain a nut free environment, for the safety of those who are anaphylactic to nuts and for those students who have known allergies to these products. We ask all members of the school community to observe the points below:

  • The Catering Department will not purchase any products containing nuts or nut oils. Whilst every effort will be made to purchase products which do not have nuts within their ingredients, there can be no guarantee that all products will contain no nut traces. All foods containing allergens will be clearly labelled.
  • The school main school and Sixth Form Canteens will not sell any nut products although they will continue to sell items which manufacturers label with caveats such as “May contain nuts” or “Made in a factory where nuts are present”. It will be the pupils’ responsibility to decide on their approach to these products.
  • Pupils will not bring food containing nuts into school or consume such products in school. Parents are asked not to give their children products containing nuts.
  • Supplies provided by the Catering Department to House kitchens will not contain nuts.
  • Any pupil concerned about the items being served is encouraged to speak to the catering team.
  • Pupils should recognise that they have an active obligation to share information about any food allergies at the point of being offered or sharing food, or of making food choices i.e. in the canteen or houses.

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
