How to Revise – Prepare, Learn, Practise

We encourage all of our students to revise with the simple mantra ‘Prepare, Learn, Practise’.

‘Prepare’ means that students should make a revision timetable and make sure they have revision checklists for each of their courses.  Put simply, they need to know what they have got to revise and when they are going to revise it.

‘Learn’ means students need to spend time memorising information.  They do this  by summarising it, converting it into a form they find useful and by testing themselves.  This is where many students find flash cards useful.

‘Practise’ means that students have to complete past exam paper questions and they then need to mark them using exam board mark schemes.  They should then improve them. Students may do this ‘open book’ to start with, progressing to closed book and timed conditions as they get closer to the exams.

The resources below show what revising with ‘Organise, Learn, Practise’ means in each of our GCSE subjects.

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
