Scientific understanding is changing our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all students should be taught essential aspects of knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science.

We must provide opportunities for students to critically evaluate information and to form their own opinions so that they are able to explore and evaluate the changing world around them.

Finally, our curriculum should engage all learners and make them “gamechangers” through increasing their science capital and enable them to be successful​, so they have the desire to continue studying science post 16. Scientifically-minded students will be better prepared to instigate and build on the changes of the future.

A ‘game-changing’ student in Science is:

A student who demonstrates an intense level of curiosity in science, making intuitive leaps in solving science problems. Game changers in science work hard on achieving an extensive knowledge base and are able to relate that knowledge to new problems and topics. Game changers demonstrate unusually high levels of motivation and/or concentration and an ability to integrate information and concepts into existing knowledge schemas. Science game changers persist, showing grit, in the pursuit of attempting to comprehend abstract concepts beyond age level expectations and want to see connections between science and the world around them, using mathematics to understand, define and or solve problems.
