Closing date 10th July 2022

As you know, we run an iPad 1 to 1 device programme in school to enable you to invest in the latest iPad for your student at Steyning. The majority of our students are enrolled in this scheme and iPads are used regularly in lessons.
Details of the scheme can be found here

Summer Explorers returns to SGS from Monday 25th July to Wednesday 27th July 2022. We will be charging £25 per child per day, and you can opt in to your preferred days.

Teachers from across our teaching and support staff will be leading a range of exciting activities designed to ease the transition process, encourage friendships and ignite an enthusiasm for learning.  Just a few examples of the sessions being run include sport activities, science investigations, arts and crafts, baking and much more.

Activities will be run on a carousel throughout each day in order to reflect how a secondary school day works. The sessions are intended to give pupils the chance to meet members of their year group from other schools. Pupils will get to know some of the staff at SGS, develop confidence and foster skills that will make learning at SGS easier and more enjoyable.

Places for this enrichment week are £25 per child per day – £75 for the full 3 days.

Each day will run from 10am – 2:00pm. Registration each day will be at 10am at either Rock Road or The Towers at the front of school. Students will be greeted by a member of staff and looked after until the start of the first session.

Each day students will need to bring:

Over the Easter Holiday, 2 groups of year 12 students travelled to the Brecon Beacons to complete their Gold Practice Expedition. Students planned their own routes and meals and even wild-camped one evening 5 kilometres from the nearest road.

It was a challenging but rewarding expedition where valuable lessons were learned but also much fun was had.

During the Easter break 41 students from years 9-11 visited Orlando for 8 days. They completed a theme park design workshop at the magic kingdom run by imagineers and designed their own theme park.

During the trip they also visited, Dave & Busters and the Rainforest cafe for a evening meal NASA and other theme parks in Orlando and had time for shopping in an outlet mall and at Disney Springs.

A brilliant time was had by both staff and students and the trip was a highlight of the academic year for those involved.

Last week Year 12 spent the day collecting data and practicing data collection methods in preparation for their NEA at West Wittering. The students had a great day on the beach and measuring the sand dunes as well as applying our class knowledge to the field.

We were so excited to welcome Y5 students to our Rock Road Campus and Tower’s Campus for seven taster experiences over the last fortnight. 500 Year 5s from over 25 primaries spent time with us. They met Y7s from their primary school, met our staff, toured the site, took part in KS3 learning activities and sampled food from our canteen. They showed zest, curiosity and kindness as they threw themselves into all the activities.

We love having our doors open again and all the students were an absolute delight. Enjoy, Respect, Achieve.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Y6 students, who are joining the Steyning Family in September, once they’ve finished their SATs.

60 Year 11 students took part in a BET revision Roadshow: How to ace your exams in Maths and English. Elevate, an external company, spoke to our students about generic exam preparation. The second and third session focused on specific maths and English top tips to passing the exam. The students and teachers involved worked extremely hard – one final push before the real thing!

This is our 11th year of Year 7 Downland Days, sadly we missed one year due to Covid lockdowns. Over this time well over 4000 children have taken part. Over the years our wonderful SGS students have cleared woodland to recreate an area of chalk grassland (a very rare habitat), opened up the Rifle Range target area, kept footpaths open and now we are focusing on helping to keep the Steyning Downland Scheme safe from trees that have contracted ash die back disease. It’s not all hard work though, our students learn about nature conservation, some local history, how to use grown up tools safely, there is definitely a lot of physics involved and they have to work together to be successful. They also have a lot of fun!!

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Unfortunately, due to the extremely high levels of staff absence, we are moving all Year 12 learning online tomorrow (Thursday 31st March.) Work will be posted on Google Classroom.

Students will be able to come into school if they wish and use the Sixth Form study spaces and computers to access their learning but there will not be any face to face or virtual lessons.

We apologise for any disruption to learning that this may cause. Face to face lessons will resume for all students on Friday.
