New site for KS3 Church Street

New site for SGS KS3 students

We have, today, informed staff and parents that SGS plans to move its existing Key Stage 3 cohort from Church Street to The Towers for the start of the 2021/22 academic year.

This is a strategic decision, which has come about from listening to the community and keeping SGS’ nurturing ethos front of mind.

Since acquiring the lease on The Towers and since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have listened to our community regarding the needs and aspirations of our Key Stage 3 students. We know how important – now, more than ever – a nurturing experience and dedicated facilities at Key Stage 3 are to families and we are proud that these are already key elements of an SGS education.

For the last year, we have been exploring ways in which The Towers will best serve our students’ requirements and improve their education experience.

We have seen an increasing demand in support for children’s well-being and, as part of the Bohunt Education Trust, we now benefit from a supportive network of education professionals and targeted student well-being resources that have strengthened our academic and pastoral offerings.

We have long recognised that Key Stage 3 students at Church Street benefit from a very nurturing and small-scale learning environment, in keeping with our site at Rock Road. After careful and thorough consideration, whilst initial thinking was that The Towers may be suitable as a sixth form site, we have decided that The Towers will be the new site for students currently at Church Street.

The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, who reside on site at The Towers, have told us how pleased they are about this move.
The Towers – a former long established private school – has state-of-the art facilities, including a swimming pool, increased sporting facilities and much more space for recreation than the Church Street site.

All of these will improve our KS3 students’ learning experiences and give them the best possible foundation ahead of joining the Upper School in Year 9 at our Shooting Field campus.

This means that our sixth form will remain at Shooting Field, which has excellent transport links, curriculum and sporting facilities, a brand-new classroom block and will benefit from significant investment, including a dedicated sixth form campus within the main site, with student on-site parking.
