Music

The BET music curriculum aims to provide all students with a high-quality music education that is innovative. The curriculum empowers and inspires students to develop a life-long love of music, increasing their self-confidence, creativity, and technical musical ability

The BET Music curriculum at Bohunt is designed to inspire and ignite a love of music across all genres and eras. Students are encouraged to develop their theoretical and analytical skills through practical playing and performing.  Students will develop ensemble skills from the beginning of year 7 – creating a collaborative and engaging musical experience on a range of instruments.

  • All students are given the opportunity to develop instrumental skills further through engagement in additional instrumental lessons with the visiting peripatetic staff. Extracurricular musical opportunities develop creativity and expression- including choirs, orchestra, bands, music tech and school productions.
  • Our students develop ‘technical’ skills to allow them to translate their intentions into sound.
  • They develop the ‘constructive’ knowledge of how musical components come together analytically and creatively.
  • The curriculum allows the ‘expressive’ pillar to strengthen as the students become more confident bringing quality, meaning and creativity to their work.

Music Learning Journey- KS3

Music Learning Journey – KS4

A ‘game-changing’ student in Music is:

A student who explores and contributes to the creative world outside the classroom by visiting concerts, reading books, watching documentaries and composing/performing music of any style.  A student who is willing to learn about, and draw from music that is new to them. A student who is willing to share their creativity with others and takes part in performing/showcase opportunities. A student who recognises they have things to teach us about music. A student who demonstrates their passion for music both within and outside of the classroom.

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
