Drama

To provide a curriculum that is rigorous, meets the vision of BET and engenders a joy of learning through the application of knowledge and a broad range of skills.

  • Improve literacy, particularly for those students who are not secondary ready. We will ensure that we are building students’ KS3 vocabulary to become ready for KS4.
  • A curriculum that improves outcomes for disadvantaged students. We are selective with who students work with, removing a hierarchy by getting students to work with various other ability learners as standard practice.
  • A Drama curriculum that focuses on stretch and challenge, both in lessons and through numerous enrichment opportunities. We are consistently giving students opportunities in the classroom, and beyond, to develop skills to feel empowered and inspired.
  • We ensure students that only study Drama in KS3 (once a week) are developing skills to make progress and develop knowledge through a range of themes & SOL, many of which have strong links with other subjects. This develops & enhances the relationship that students have with other subjects.
  • Drama across the BET gives all students the opportunity to look more closely at the world around them; to ‘put themselves in the shoes of others’ in society and develop their empathy skills in a world where these can be forgotten.
  • Enjoyment in Drama lessons is key to their learning. We want students to work out of their comfort zone, breaking barriers and feeling challenged, but at the same time have the opportunity to enjoy the process of the work.

Drama KS3/4 Learning Journey

A ‘game-changing’ student in Drama is:

A student who can work with a wide range of others in a purposeful, collaborative manner, exploring ideas creatively and practically to produce a specific impact for an audience.

A student who makes links between ideas derived from themes and texts to the wider social, cultural and historical contexts.

A student who can analyse and evaluate both their own and their peers’ work, as well as that of professional performers and practitioners, both verbally and in the written form.

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
