Student Christian Union Groups

Students are invited to explore the Christian faith, discuss life’s big questions, study the Bible, pray together, and build friendships through our lunchtime Christian Union groups.

Christian Unions are vibrant and fun, meet regularly across the school and are open to all students. Whether students are committed Christians, exploring faith for the first time, or simply curious about Christianity, they are welcome to attend.

The groups provide opportunities for discussion, Bible study, prayer, worship, and reflection in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Alongside the Christian Union groups, students are also encouraged to engage with other chaplaincy activities including Prayer Zones, Bible study groups, mentoring opportunities, Alpha courses, and Mission Week events. Together these provide a range of ways for students to explore faith, ask questions, and develop spiritually.

Chaplaincy and Community Support

The Chaplaincy Team is supported by a network of local churches, Christian organisations, and volunteers who contribute to the spiritual and pastoral life of the school. Together they help provide collective worship, Christian Union groups, prayer support, mentoring, pastoral care, and opportunities for students and staff to explore questions of faith, meaning, and purpose.

Partnership with the Diocese of Chichester

As a Church of England school, Steyning Grammar School enjoys a positive and active relationship with the Diocese of Chichester. The Diocese supports the school in nurturing its Christian vision, collective worship, chaplaincy provision, and spiritual development.

As a Voluntary Controlled Church of England School, Steyning Grammar School is inspected under the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) framework, which evaluates how effectively the school’s Christian vision shapes the life of the community.

What I have loved about my three years so far at SGS are the brilliant resources and facilities. For example, I really enjoy the library at shooting field, which has a range of books and ebooks (which I can read on my iPad at home and at school).
