Our careers team provide high quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) to motivate and inspire our students. We aim to equip them with the skills, knowledge and information needed to achieve their full potential at school, work, and ultimately throughout their career.
The careers programme is structured, impartial and embedded across the whole school. We adhere to statutory guidance and careers education, including “Careers Guidance and Access for Education and Training Providers” and work closely with the Careers and Enterprise Company to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

The Gatsby benchmarks ensure that we are providing an outstanding programme of support to our students that is regularly reviewed to national standards.
Throughout our careers programme we collaborate with employers and post-16/18 learning providers including local colleges, 6th forms universities and apprenticeship training providers. An independent careers adviser provides careers interviews ensuring every student receives bespoke support before they leave the school. We also work with other organisations that aim to support young people in their
transition from the school into further learning or the workplace, including the local authority and National Careers Service.
Where possible providers are invited into school to work with students through collapsed timetable days, events, assemblies, tutor sessions and targeted group work.

We are thrilled to work with Claire Jewel as our Enterprise Adviser.
Reviewing impact is a key part of what we do. Our careers programme is organic-it grows and changes with each cohort to ensure we are meeting the needs of students and providing relevant activities to help them shape their futures.
We work closely with the local authority providing destinations data (also reported to our governors) and to provide intervention for students at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment, or training).
We regularly evaluate all our workshops and events asking both students and providers to share their views in order to gauge the impact and him prove provision. Students’ progress is further reviewed using the Unifrog and skills builder toolkits, as well as future skills questionnaire to examine provision and impact across their time at Steyning Grammar School. This data, along with feedback from parents and carers feeds into our annual action plans.
We formally assess our progress towards each of the 8 Gatsby benchmarks each term using the composite valuation tool as part of our partnership working with the Careers and
Enterprise Company.

We are now using the Unifrog Careers Software across the whole school. All students in all year groups have been sent a link to make an account and this they can use at home and at school. Unifrog is a “one-stop-shop” online platform for secondary school students in the UK, helping them explore interests, discover post-school opportunities (universities, apprenticeships, colleges), and manage applications for their best next step after school, providing tools for writing personal statements, CVs, and recording achievements for teachers and counsellors too.
If our parent/carers would like to have access to their student’s Unifrog then please email us and will can set this up for you. We shall be using Unifrog for all work experience provision in Year 10 and Year 12 as well.

Teaching staff and departments are aware of their important role in careers. Careers content is embedded into lessons and staff are actively working towards improving the careers in
the curriculum content for their subject. Within tutor time we have a dedicated session every two weeks where we focus on careers in different subject areas, including labour market information and essential skills required by employers.

All staff also have access to Unifrog so that they can share labour market information (LMI) with students using the careers library tool.
We encourage all staff to consider careers learning opportunities when running trips and events-such as “making every trip a careers trip”, by requesting speakers to share their careers journeys and experiences whilst on the trip.

All students are provided with a Unifrog account. This platform allows them to evaluate their skills, record their experiences and research perspective colleges, apprenticeships, courses, and careers. Parents can also be allocated a login on request.
